The Name

“Vanga” refers to a family of birds, the Vangidae, known for their striking diversity in beak shapes and feeding behaviors. They’re sort of the “Darwin’s finches” of Madagascar — a textbook example of adaptive radiation, where one ancestral species diversifies into many forms specialized for different ecological niches.
